Community housing sector on growth trajectory to benefit affordability

The significant growth in the scale and sophistication of Australia’s community housing sector has been revealed with the release at the International Housing Partnership Exchange of a new report that outlines further expected gains over the next two years that will be critical to tackling housing affordability.

 

The Sector Capacity Prospectus 2017-18 shows that collectively Australia’s 30 largest scale Community Housing Providers have over the last four years:

  • almost doubled the number of housing units under management to more than 50,000;
  • seen the value of this stock grow 80 per cent to $15.4 billion; and
  • provided safe, secure and affordable housing for more than 80,000 people as at June 2017.
