IHP [International Housing Partnership]

WHO WE ARE:

The International Housing Partnership (IHP) is a confederation of not for profit housing organisations in Australia, Canada, the UK and USA and aspiring to include members from other international jurisdictions. The range of services, businesses and programs they provide, while it varies in each country, generally includes affordable rental housing, advocacy, neighbourhood or client services, property development, neighbourhood regeneration or revitalization, and communtiy development and within some countries, includes financing, property ownership and commercial activities.

IHP facilitates dynamic exchanges of information and experiences among its members, fosters collaboration on business practices and creation of social enterprises, and encourages discussion and shared approaches on policy and organisational structures that impact the development, operation, and sustainability of social housing. The shared values of our members enables us to create a unique synergy and derive significant value from our work together despite the significant differences in the policy, financial, and cultural contexts of our individual countries.

OUR VISION:

A World without Housing Poverty.

OUR MISSION:

To harness the collective experience and the collective capacity of our accomplished members to enable them to become more efficient, effective and better at serving their communities and to raise the profile of our business-oriented not-for-profit sector and the importance of housing, emphasising housing for low-income earning households, with governments, philanthropic organisations, commercial entities and the public generally.

OUR VALUES:

  • IHP recognises that its vision and mission is a cause requiring focussed collaboration and the continuous imporvement of member organisations
  • IHP strives to be an innovative, entrepreneurial, reformative and environmentally responsible social enterprise and to lead by example
  • IHP members share information, not otherwise commercially restricted, for the benefit of all members
  • IHP will treat its' members and stakeholders with empathy, respect, cooperativeness and diligence.

HABITAT for HUMANITY - Project Partnership

We will be partnering with Habitat for Humanity along with our Members to provide $150,000 for the Ex-Kamaiya Project to the Tharu communities of Western Nepal. These people were once part of bonded slavery to wealthy land owners, which was abolished in mid-2000. They have been provided with land that is poor in sanitation, houses are dilapidated and it is prone to landslides, flood and other natural disasters.

We aim to take a team made up of volunteer delegates from our Member organisations staff and tenants, to contribute to the work with Habitat for Humanity and BASE (a local NGO in Nepal) to assist the Manahara community.

The project will support the provision of latrines and tube well facilities for 136 households. The project will also seek to enhance the community's economic self sufficiency through vocational skills training and access to micro-loans for small business development. Increasing the community's income earning capacity is expected to assist households in meeting their basic nutritional requirements.
